If you're into video like me and you've posted or hosted videos on Yahoo! Video, you might want to read the following message. This was sent to me earlier since I have content on their site, I just wanted to give everyone a heads-up. If you know anyone esle who might have videos up on Yahoo, it's not too late to get them this message. They have until 3/14/2011. If folks don't know about this, they'll lose their videos.

"Dear Yahoo! Video user,
After careful consideration, we will be removing all general user-generated content upload capability and user-uploaded video from Yahoo! Video. As a result, your videos, user profiles, ratings, favorites, and playlists will no longer be available after March 14, 2011. User video content from Yahoo! Video that remains embedded on third party sites will no longer be playable after March 14, 2011.
Available on your profile page is a software utility that will allow you to download the videos you have uploaded to Yahoo! Video to your computer through March 14, 2011. You can find your profile by clicking on the 'My Video' tab or going to http://video.yahoo.com/mypage
Once you download your videos, you may choose to upload them to another site such as Flickr, which now allows video uploads. You can find out more here: http://www.flickr.com/explore/video.
Thanks for your understanding and thanks for being a part of Yahoo! Video.
If you have any questions about this change, please visit our FAQ section, or contact Customer Care."
The Yahoo! Video Team
Getting the word out and helping others is what the Internet, Blogging, and Social Media is all about. I'd feel guilty if I didn't post this on my AR Blog and especially if some of you lost your videos. So you can either go on over to yahoo video right now, save your stuff, or you can go on about your day.
Thanks for stopping by and reading. Happy Holidays~

Beware using Flickr - if they deem that you are using the video for "commercial" purposes, they'll send you a warning and then delete your account, or some such thing....
You would be better off using Google, YouTube or any other video hosting site...
You know Brae, I don't even know if they (my yahoo videos) are still there. It was a decade ago. wonder if I can remember my password.
This won't impact me, but thanks for the heads up! Seems you're still looking out for us! Thanks!
Brad, thanks for the update. I really have to think, if I have any Yahoo videos left. YouTube just took over. Thanks again, will past the information along...
Brad: Thanks for the heads up. Fortunately it doesn't affect me, but it will affect several I know. What a huge change in course. I think there's plenty of room online for different platforms for video. I'm surprised they'd let go of something that could/would give them so much search engine juice for online presence. Interesting...
Hi brad,
Wow, thanks for this. I don't use Yahoo and with this new knowledge, won't. I do like flickr, but use Youtube the most. Cindy
Good heads up for ActiveRain members.
I am not a fan of video, . . . . yet.
I've tried several times and am just NOT THERE. . . . yet.
Now I have another video "problem". I upgraded to the "latest" Windows OP and it's a 64 bit system.
Guess what? Adobe doesn't offer a 64 bit Flash. . . . yet. I couldn't view most videos, even if I wanted to. . . which I usually do not.
The video will advise me to download and upgrade Flash, then it tells me that I cannot because my system is a 64 bit and that Flash is a 32bit.
Ugh.
I do not have any videos yet. I will share the information with others.Thank you.
Brad, I don't have any videos up on Yahoo, but I will let others know. Thanks for the heads up.
Saw that earlier this week but with 90 secs and not able to peddle commercially, we use our pro flickr account for 99.9 clean four seasons photos of our state, wildlife, scenery, the flavor and sizzle.
I have always been a fan of youtube. Thanks for the info :)
Looks like from the comments the reason they stopped is no body was using them but good call on letting people know. I have a few on there and didn't get a notice yet. Happy Holidays Brad.
Why is Yahoo doing this? Seems kind of backward and also very short sighted. Actually, didn't I see something somewhere that Yahoo was laying off 400 to 500 workers?
Hi Brad - Thanks for the Yahoo Video update. I have never used Yahoo Video so it won't affect me. I agree with the others about the problems with 90 second videos and non-commercial use on Flickr.
Thanks for the heads up.
Thanks for the info. I don't think I have anything there, but will go check it out anyway!
Wow-Yahoo is going through some major changes. They should of gone for the merger. More things to come as they continue to lay people off.
Brad,
Thanks for the update. I was planning to learn "video" over the downtime in the holiday season, so this is timely.
Brian
I am on YouTube, but good to know in case some asks about this.
interesting, I never knew they did videos
Brad. The safest place for videos is YouTube in my opinion. Video is what they do and they are HUGE!
I feel for the folks that will lose their content. It's the risk we all take when storing stuff in the cloud.
wow, but then again im sure it makes it more simple it for Yahoo.
Boy, I can see where this could become a huge problem for people. Not me....no video yet. I imagine many people won't see this in time. Such a shame. Thanks for the post.
I learn something new everyday on AR, Thanks Brad
I had one video up that was irreplaceable, I lost the original when my hard-drive crashed in New Orleans at NAR. I went in and downloaded it and now have it in a couple safe places. It was a short video of my brother and I reconnecting (thanks to ActiveRain) after more than 40 years. That video is priceless to me, I'm glad I was able to retrieve it before they cleaned house. :-)
I get the feeling that with a few more moves like this, Yahoo will be about as relevant as Excite or Lycos.
Same thing happened to me on Mixpo video. I still use Youtube and Vimeo.
I think Youtube Is the way to go - works with iphones and such and integrates well into sites and the like.... plus you can throw flip cam vids up easily.
I'd move them to YouTube instead of Flickr. I think Google has a better chance of staying around for a longer time. I guess it also shows why one should keep the original files too.
Hi Brad, thats great that you were able to get a copy of your video of your reunion with your brother. This is a good reminder that we should have a few copies our important items in a couple of places. All the best in the new year.
Whoever featured this at AR, thanks for helping to get the word out. I'm getting some really nice grateful emails from members.
I do place nearly all my videos on Youtube, a few on Flickr, and even some on Facebook, but this notice made me question my recent post about storing everything on the cloud?!? I see others are having those same thoughts and feelings as well. Guess it's time to invest in some terabyte hard-drives!! :-)
Life on the web is becoming a "hard drive!" lol~
Brad,
Thanks for the heads up, makes you wonder what motivated this decision.
-Brent
Good heads up. Yahoo must be streamlining their business model. Many of those videos will end up on Youtube where Google is struggling to make a profit as well.
I have always used Youtube (biggest is best) so no problem here. I wouldn't want to have to worry about all my content, but a good heads up for all AR members.
That's an interesting move. I wonder how many video bloggers who already use Flickr will make the switch.
Good information. I am just getting into video and I will make sure I find a good home for them.
Hi Joan - good call.
Youtube is great, flickr is good, maybe even facebook, but at home on a hardrive or spare drive is also not too bad a recommendation. :)
