Yahoo! MyBlogLog to be Discontinued
(Just to clarify the title, I'm not saying Yahoo that MyBlogLog is going away either...)
They'll come and they'll go. Some will stay, others just won't stand the test of time. The announcement that MyBlogLog will be discontinued came as a surprise to me this morning. For those not familiar with MyBlogLog, it's a social network for the blogger community that is based in part on interactions facilitated by a popular web widget that some members install on their blogs. Bloggers sign up for free accounts on MyBlogLog and can initiate a blog community for one or more blogs they author.
Today MyBloglog sent an email to paying and non-paying members:
Dear MyBlogLog Customer,
You have been identified as a customer of Yahoo! MyBlogLog. We will officially discontinue Yahoo! MyBlogLog effective May 24, 2011. Your agreement with Yahoo!, to the extent that it applies to the Yahoo! MyBlogLog, will terminate on May 24, 2011.
After May 24, 2011 your credit card will no longer be charged for premium services on MyBlogLog. We will refund you the unused portion of your subscription, if any. The refund will appear as a credit via the billing method we have on file for you. To make sure that your billing information is correct and up to date, visit https://billing.yahoo.com.
If you have questions about these changes, visit MyBlogLog help pages.
While it's disappointing to see any site or product on the web "fail" the thing I'll miss most will be seeing some of your smiling faces on my ActiveRain sidebar. I really enjoy looking at the MyBlogLog widget to see who's been here. The best part is that I can tell you were here even if you didn't leave a comment. Looks like I'm going to have to find a replacement widget or tool so I can still keep track of your smiling faces.
If you're using MyBlogLog, looks like you will too.
Well, I guess the market didn't like it enough to keep it around. That is the thing about free enterprise. Either it works or it doesn't. If only our Government would let ALL business deal with it instead of buying them out or subsidizing them.
That's actually kind of a bummer. I did like seeing my friends smiling faces on the side of my blogs. Sadly, and while it was fresh in my mind, I've removed it from my blog settings.
Me too, I'll miss it. I actually got quite a bit of synergy with my online activities because of it. I think MyBlogLog was one of those odd shaped Lego's... Most people just didn't get it or its purpose, or what it was good for was not blatantly obvious.
The one thing I won't miss is that when I visited your blog Craig and saw my photo in your MyBlogLog widget, I felt compelled to leave a comment since you'd see I was there anyway. :-O lol~
Probably a case Brad of not enough MOMENTUM with this tool. Who knows? It seems like they would say why.
It's the 2nd announcement I saw today... Yeah that's pretty sad BUT.....
I became an ALL STAR Zillow member now. I'm wearing that proud.
It shows that the economy and competition has hit the mighty Yahoo of our time. More changes are coming
Brad ...Might be a time ( Opportunity ) for you to round up some techies and ...Start up a new Company !!! :)
of course it was always fun guessing "who" when we would see these appear in the widget.
Good point Brad! It's hard to "show up" and then leave without at least saying hello!
I'll just comment, so you can see my smiling face? How's that instead?
Brad,
I got that e-mail this morning too. I guess we'll all have to disable that widget pretty soon. Like you, I'll miss seeing everyone's faces and knowing exactly who's been visiting (and perhaps not commenting!)
Yes Brad it will be strange not seeing everyones smiling faces !!

Brad, it is dissapointing to see sites fail. Thank goodness we still have Active Rain!
Hi Brad... it's like they say, the only constant is change!
Brad, let us know if you discover a new service. I wasn't even aware of this, but it sounds like a great tool!
Brad - thanks for the update, I had no idea. I did NOT get that lovely email.
So the MyBlogLog widget will be disappearing from all of our AR blogs, huh?!
Jeff
It's the end of another era. Onto bigger and better blogs!!!
The community blog page was another fav of mine.
There are some great features I'll mis for sure.... R.I.P MyBlogLog....
Brad, I never had the MyBlogLog so don't get the full extent of what all of you will be missing but it sounds like it would have been something I liked. Oh well.......
Hi Brad - Yahoo! keeps dropping more and more of its products. At some point, we will wonder what Yahoo! is known for anymore.
You'll never see my smiling face so here I am now!!! Hey, what about the AR re-blogging feature being taken away? Am I the only AR member who cares about this? It was great to be able to re-blog a good post, especially when time was tight. Does anyone know anything about this?
Brad,
Guess you will have to come to Rain Camp! Are you going to Seattle?
Linda - I'm sure they are working on the reblog feature, we all miss it. :-)
Lori - I will see you at RainCamp Seattle.... wouldn't miss it for the world.
Hearing this news a few months ago was a big time bummer! Mybloglog is one of my favorite tools. I liked the tracking features as well as seeing your stalkers:)
I will miss this site as I used it almost everyday to track where visitors were coming from and what they were clicking on. Do you know of a similar site?

Todd - I'm looking into others, will let you know what I find when I do.
