The ActiveRain Stuff You Won't Find Anywhere Else on the Web

Active Rain Dinner - Ends In Marriage Proposal

Tuesday night of this week, a few of us AR members got the chance to meet up with Active Rains very own Jonathan Washburn and Bob Stewart as they were passing through San Francisco, California.  We met at a place called Cafe Tirimisu for some really good food, fun, and Vino.  It was really cool getting to meet a few of the folks who showed up to enjoy and partake in the evening with us.

I finally got to meet Bob Stewart and Ginger Wilcox who I feel like I've already known forever.  We've talked on the phone at times, even commented to each other on our Blogs, but meeting in person is really the coolest part of the whole Active Rain experience.  There's something special about finally meeting another AR member that I just can't put into words.  It seems that every time I meet someone from AR in person, there's already an invisible bond or "code of respect" that exists, and then the relationship just gets stronger and now means so much more.

Who else was there?  I was fortunate to get our waiter to take this photo of us outside the cafe after dinner.  I promised I'd share this photo here!

Me, Mary Pope-Handy, Dionne Morgan, Cindy Lin, Bob Stewart, Janet Guilbault, Mike Mueller, Jonathan Washburn, Ginger Wilcox.

I just have to share this little tid-bit here.  When someone at the dinner table asked Bob Stewart his role at Active Rain Corp, his response was that he's the community builder for this great social network that we all love!  OK, are you ready?  Here it comes...I never said it out loud, but now I will always see you my friend as "Bob The Builder"...you knew it was coming Bob!!!  LOL!~   I just had to share that.....sorry.  :-)

While sitting at the dinner table discussing a wide variety of topics and musings, the gentleman sitting right next to me at the adjacent table, stood up, said excuse me to Janet Gilbault, and I quote, "I need to get in here" as he semi nuzzled her out of the way.  Then he repeated, "Excuse me, I really need to get in here" as Janet moved from his pathway and he squeezed between our tables.  He drops down onto one knee, pulls out the little black box, and begins  proposing.  I hear the words, "Will You Marry Me?"  Just FYI, he was not talking to Janet or Bob Stewart.  I couldn't believe this was happening right next to me, I've only seen this kinda stuff on TV, but since I had the camera...well...you know me, I just started clicking away.

I found out that Pax Smith was the gentleman's name, so I gave him my card and told him to contact me so I could email him the photos of his "special moment."  Little did Pax know, he was sitting next to a table of Active Rain Bloggers, so before I send him these photos, I thought sending him a link to this post might even be more special.  I hope he won't mind that I shared this with all of you here on Active Rain.  I thought I'd let some comments build up before I send him this link.  We wish Pax and his "Wife To Be" all the very Best!

So here's to you Pax and to your beautiful new Fiancée This moment captured on film can never be re-lived or taken back and re-done, but it will always be remembered and special.  I hope these photos will remind you of that special night in San Francisco, and always bring a smile to your faces knowing that the complete strangers sitting next to you were very touched by your proposal that evening.  My gift to you both is this post, these photos, and if you look around here on Active Rain, you'll find over 70,000 people here who would love to help you and your lady with the process of finding that next home you'll be buying soon to start your wonderful "new" family!  We represent the entire Country here, so you're in good hands.   Just click here to roam about the country.

Congratulations to Pax Smith and his Fiancée, and "thank you" to Active Rain and the other members for a wonderful and memorable evening that will be etched in our memories forever.  It really was a special night for us all!  A very special "Happy Valentine's Day" to each of you and especially to Pax and his new Fiancée.

EDIT 3:  The Comment Response from Pax

Hello Brad and the whole Active Rain dinner party!

WOW! What an incredible and overwhelming response! Tiffany and I, want to thank each and everyone of you for your well wishes and offerings of luck. It was a fantastic evening made even more so, by the emotional support offered to us by strangers who each, in their own way provided and are still providing love and memories that we will forever carry with us.

Thank You All!

And when we start the search for a new home we know the people to whom we'll turn.

James Pax Smith

EDIT 4:  The Comment Response from Tiffany

To the active rain crew,

Thank you so much for being there at our special moment on Tuesday night. The photos and video montage are more that Pax & I both could ever ask for! I haven't been able to stop grinning since it happened, and I know I'll always be able to look back at the photos and re-live the happy night! I'm the luckiest gal in the world!

Now is that cool or what?  Another reason to ALWAYS carry a camera.  Active Rain has certainly taught me that.

What a blessing to see this, I've never actually seen a proposal, but I'm sure I'd cry and then think camera. Glad you had fun, what a great way to meet people,I think it is easier than in large groups, more one on one time. Thanks for capturing the moment.

Nannette - it was the coolest evening and for so many reasons!  Pax and his proposal just topped off the night.  I hope he enjoys these photos, this post, and your comments here.  I know he will.  Thanks for being a part of this with us. It really is a special post because it's Valentines Day, and I'm dedicating this one to Pax!!  :-)

Cheryl - I will be inviting Pax via an email today.  I will also get "her" name from him to add to this post.  I just wanted to write this first so that when Pax gets here, he'll see all these comments, feel the love, and know what a wonderful community we have here.  Once he gets here, I'll send him the photos as well.  Thanks for contributing your wished for Pax and his Fiancée.  :-)

Jeanean - I thought it was kinda funny too!  I hope Bob gets a kick out of it,  I hope I don't get one of those little red X's that he's very capable of delivering if he doesn't see the humor in it!!  LOL!~ Joking aside, him and Jonathan are two of the coolest and nicest guys you will ever meet!  They're more fun than one person should be allowed to have!!

So Bob...where are you?  ROFL!!!  :-)

Brad, thanks for the great pictures from your Active Rain get-together the other night.  I read the story first on Ginger's blog, and it's wonderful to see some more pictures from the event.  I'm sure Pax and his fiancee will be enjoying their Valentine's Day today!

What a blessing to see this, I've never actually seen a proposal, but I'm sure I'd cry and then think camera. Glad you had fun, what a great way to meet people,I think it is easier than in large groups, more one on one time. Thanks for capturing the moment.

Missy -  It truly was a Blessing.  This was my first witnessing of a "live" proposal.  I still get the chills thinking about my own 17 years ago.  I wish I had the photos from my proposal to my wife.  I think that's what really makes this gift special for Pax.  How many people can say they have photos of when they were proposing to their spouse?  It has to be a rare occurrence and I'm sure only few have candid shots like these.

After taking the photos, I realized that had Pax walked away without us exchanging our information, all would be lost, as I will probably never see him again in person for the rest of our lives.  Just think, I'd have these photos, and he'd never know it, and I'd have no way to ever contact him.  The whole story here is what really makes that night so special.  I'm glad things worked out the way they did.

BTW - I do love meeting in the small groups, but I love the BIG groups too.  RE Connect is a great place to connect with hundreds of AR members, but you are right, the smaller groups allow you to really get to know one another much better.  Happy Valentines Day Missy!!  (wink wink)  :-)

Great pictures my friend!

On that picture of me...

"I can neither confirm nor deny that someone may have or may not have been playing footsie under the table.    I cannot recall the actual  event at this time sir."

But I did have such a wonderful time.

I talked to his Wife To Be downstairs and this was their first restaurant, and it was their unofficial "Anniversary" dining place.  So it was the perfect place to propose.  Congrats!

I was sooo busy yesterday - no time to blog at all.

Loved it.  Loved you all.  And a very special thank you to AR, without them none of this would be possible.

Congratulations Pax and Tiffany!   How lucky you were that the Active Rain dinner party was there.  Now, you have those beautiful pictures to remember that special moment.  Leave it to our Brad to always be prepared for anything and everything.

Brad, thanks for sharing the entire evening with us.

I am taking my beautiful wife to dinner tonight, but I'll be back later to continue reading these comments. WOW!

I think the best part of this story is that Pax and Tiffany have something now to cherish the rest of their lives that most people in the world don't have.  How many married people do you know that have photos of when they got engaged or when the questions got popped?  I really want to thank Pax and Tiffany for allowing me to share their special moment with the world.  I also realized how most of us can never experience the joy and excitement of having your proposal photos because none of us have them, or at least very few!  In deed this was a special moment, turned into a very special Valentine Story, with a lot of help from a community of very special strangers.

Pax and Tiffany, you both are blessed to have each other, and just know that the world is truly still a special place....but only if you want it to be, and YOU both make it that way!  Live long, Be Happy, Love Forever, and most of all..... Enjoy the Journey!!

Brad - Cool post. I can't say that I've every seen a stranger propose before. Maybe today, who knows.

Larry - it's funny, my wife and I were talking about how rare this really is.  We don't realize it because we see it so much on TV, but to witness a real life marriage proposal is rare, to capture it on film is nearly impossible. We can't think of anyone we know in the world who has their proposal photos, we wish we had one, I proposed to my wife on one knee while on a boat underneath the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.  I'd love to have had a picture.  Pax is very fortunate to have such a rare moment caught on film!  I feel as blessed as he is!!   :-)

Mike - it was great having you there. Too bad you had to park your motorcycle soooooo far away, you must have been exhausted by the time you walked back to it after dinner.  Janet and I think we saw you pass us on the freeway....doing 95 mph!  Was that you?   :-)

And.. It sure was nice of you to dress up for their engagement announcement. Pax, congratulations to you and your lovely fiancee!

Nick - it was a great night.  Just had to post this, getting to see a proposal live was awesome.  I'm happy I had my camera in hand and ready to shoot.  It was wonderful to be a part of such a special evening!  :-)

The TUX was just perfect for the occasion...   :-)

Awh, PAX !!! Congratulations, and points to you for being such a romantic! I hope your fiancee likes "attention" cause you are getting Rained on :)   A beautiful couple - Happy Valentine's Day!

Brad, when first I saw the picture I thought, "oh. Brad really got dressed up for an AR get together"  then saw comments and realized it was shopped.  haha. Laughs on me :)

Bob the Builder - thank you! I think that name sounds appropriate, Brad!

Kim - you didn't notice the "No Hands" TUX?  I thought it was a cute idea to add that for the "Marriage" part of this post! Yes, the laughs on you, but you know how loved you are here!!  :-)

BTW - I will always refer to my friend now as "Bob The Builder" if you scroll down, you'll see he commented and even changed his name for me just for the day!  You just gotta love that guy!  He's a great sport, and a wonderful community builder!   BOB THE BUILDER!  Yes, how appropriate!

I must admit.......I was totally oblivious to the proposal. I didn't even realize it had happened until Jon and I were walking home after dinner. I heard one of you guys congratulate Pax on his way out, but I had no idea :)

So from the guy in his own little world with the crazy eyes......congratulations Pax and Tiffany!!

I changed my signature just for you Brad.........today only :-)

Thank you for coming to dinner. Jon and I had a great time. It's always special for us to get to meet the people that make ActiveRain what it is. You sir, certainly fit the bill on that!

Let me know if you or the members in your area ever have a gathering or a need for some training / coaching in your area.  I know we are working on some programs and budgets that would allow for us to take some of the AR programs and opportunities on the road.  There may be some costs involved so it's good to know if you are interested in this type of thing.  Just let me know anytime!!

how cool is this Brad?

You are just being inundated with once in a lifetime events aren't ya? Good for you! Not many people would have been this thoughtful to take pics and video of the couple's special event. PRETTY COOL!

Gwendolyn, as I read through this post again, I realized how fortunate I was to be a part of the whole evening.  These once in a lifetime events have been surrounding me lately haven't they?  I think I'm at that point in life now where paying attention to my surroundings is more important than the material things in life. I have had some really highs this year, and some really lows, so what I have learned is that we have a choice in life...to either look up, or to look down.  IMO, I'm blessed by these events only because I choose to keep looking up.    :-)
